Garci's not yet off the hook

OPPOSITION lawmakers yesterday said that former Commission on Elections commissioner Virgilio Garcillano is not yet off the hook even after he denied that he helped President Macapagal-Arroyo cheat during the May 2004 elections.

Rep. Roilo Golez warned that Garcillano would be the instrument for the downfall of the Arroyo administration if he continues to lie.

He also questioned the scheduled meeting set by House Speaker Jose de Venecia with the five heads of the committees investigating the Hello, Garci controversy on Tuesday.

"Bakit kailangang pulungin ng Speaker ang limang committee chairmen? Para bigyan ng instructions? That meeting is in bad taste," Golez added.

He said De Venecia can always join committee hearings where he can say his piece.
