GOLEZ CONGRATULATES PARAYNO FOR FILING TAX EVASION CASE
AGAINST BROTHER IN LAW OF GEN. LIGOT
Congressman Roilo Golez, Chairman of the House Committee
on National Defense, congratulated BIR Commissioner Guillermo
Parayno for filing a tax evasion against the brother in
law of retired Lt. Gen. Jacinto Ligot, former AFP Comptroller
who is now facing unexplained wealth charges initiated by
the Golez committee.
Golez is referring to the tax evasion charges filed by the
BIR against Ligot's brother in law, Edgardo Tecson Yambao
and his wife Maria Isabel who, it said, had no record of
ITRs from 1993 to 2003. The BIR said that the couple have
a residential unit in a subdivision in Muntinlupa, a condominium
unit at One Burgundy Plaza in Loyola Heights, and another
residential unit at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City. The BIR
also stated that the Yambaos acquired the condo in 1999,
and three luxury vehicles-a Toyota Land Cruiser and two
Subaru Foresters-from 2001 to 2003. These were in addition
to a unit in Essensa East Forbes Condominium. The total
cost of these assets at the time of their acquisition was
P31.68 million, the BIR said.
Edgardo Yambao is the brother of Erlinda Tecson Ligot, wife
of Gen. Ligot.
One of the documents unearthed by the Golez Committee in
the inquiry on Gen. Ligot was the condominium title of a
unit in Essensa East Forbes Condominium that shows it was
purchased by Erlinda Tecson Ligot in April 2003 but later
"sold" to her brother Edgardo Yambao in August
2003, who per BIR records has no financial capacity to make
such purchase. According to Golez, the Office of the Ombudsman
is now investigating not only the Ligots but also Edgardo
Yambao as a suspected dummy of the Ligots.
Golez said that he believes that Edgardo Yambao fronted
for the Ligots not only in the case of the Essensa condominium
unit but also the other properties mentioned by the BIR.
Gen. Ligot served as the AFP Comptroller during the term
of then AFP Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes. The Committee also
found out that Mrs. Erlinda Ligot was a frequent traveling
companion of Mrs. Teresita Reyes, wife of the former chief
of staff. According to Bureau of Immigration records, Mrs.
Ligot and Mrs. Reyes traveled together at least twelve times
to various destinations abroad, mostly Hong Kong and the
States, from 1998 to 2004.
