HOUSE NATURAL RESOURCES
COMMITTEE APPROVES GOLEZ RESOLUTION URGING SUSPENSION OF COMMERCIAL
LOGGING:
The House Committee on Natural Resources approved yesterday
a House Resolution authored by Cong. Roilo Golez (2d District,
Paranaque City) urging Malacanang and the DENR to suspend
all commercial logging operations in view of the damage
to lives and property brought about by flashflood and mudslides
caused by denuded mountains and forests in Aurora and Quezon.
The resolution was approved unanimously by the members of
the committee headed by Congressman Leovigildo Banaag of
Agusan del Norte. This is considered historic because it
is the first time in the history of the House of Representatives
that a commercial log ban resolution has been approved at
committee level. The log ban issue has always been a contentious
and hot issue in the House of Representatives.
